Latest News

Well the latest news on the house, is that the official closing is one month from today. The house was appraised two weeks ago, which went very well. Last week, the house inspection was completed with very minimal repairs needing to be worked on. I have purchased the washer and dryer that I need, along with the new refrigerator. They will be delivered just a few days after I arrive in North Carolina. I have not rented the truck yet, but that will be the next order of business.

Now, the hassle is picking out paint. As we were all able to see, the house needs painted. I want a neutral color, but never realized how many shades of tan there can be. I am going crazy with all the paint samples to choose from.

Before I finish this post, I want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my wonderful friend Rachel W. (won't mention her age). She has been my friend since high school and is now studying abroad, so a simple phone call will not do, but a post might help.

Alex and Aunt Sara

This weekend, I went over to Portage, Michigan to see Matt, Silvia and Baby Alex. It was great to see them again, and to meet Alex for the first time.

Mackinac Island

So the scenery on the trip north was very beautiful. Unfortunately, we had rain last week so it took a lot of the leaves to the ground.

Here we are at the Mackinac Bridge, which connects the upper and lower peninsula. It was cool to look one direction and you can see Lake Huron, turn the other direction and there is Lake Michigan. All I have to see now is Lake Superior.

This picture was taken for Grandpa Fehrman. Mom said that when she was a kid Grandpa Fehrman brought them all here and they had their picture taken.

This is the view coming into Mackinac Island on the catamaran. The town itself really reminded me of downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The Grand Hotel. This is the hotel that we stayed at while on the island. If you do not have reservations at the hotel, you have to pay twelve dollars just to walk around. They have someone standing outside by the front entrance to ask for money if you have to pay. Plus they have sign explaining all the rules for after six in the evening. Which means, men in jackets and ties and ladies in their finest.

So, there is driving on the island allowed. This is how the hotel transports our luggage from the docks to the hotel. You can take it yourself up the hill, or have the hotel complete the delivery.

Here is a picture taken at the Mackinac Island State Park, this is Fort Mackinac.

This is out front of the Fort, it is the Baptist Bark Chapel. And yes, it is made out of bark.

This is the Biddle house, which is the oldest house on the island. It was built here by a man from Quebec.

This picture cracked me up. Behind the sign was the hospital. Please note, for emergencies you can call 847-3962 or 911. Which number do you think that people remember better. Plus, it is the medical center, but you must have an appointment and they close at 4:00 in the afternoon. That is the job to have.

Taken on the trail with horse that would not stop when I said too. The one time she did stop, it was because she wanted to go one way and I wanted to go the other way. The guy at the stable told me to be firm with her or someone would have to get out and lead her the correct way. So we get to the spot that she wants to go right and I left and she stops when I pull to the left. She then starts backing up and running the carriage off the road. I tell mom to get out and lead her, but for some reason mom has her shoes off and can't find them. I yelled, swatted and yelled some more and she finally went my way.
This is the area that they call British Landing. On the tour we took with the horse and carriage, we got to see lots of places of history. Places such as British Landing, Battle field of 1814, and a cemetery from the 1800's.

You cannot see this picture too well, but my hands were red. Flaming red. Why you ask?? It was so cold, windy and rainy that day on the carriage ride. After the ride, we had to go back to the hotel and warm up before doing anything else for the day. We were out on the carriage for almost two hours.

This is Skull cave, why I do not know.
Here are two videos that I took. Yes, I know, I forgot again not to turn my camera to the side when filming. Try turning your monitor and laying on your side to view the first video. The second video was from the boat ride back to the main land.
